There’s no way I’ll fall for Wyatt Hennington.
He can keep his Southern drawl, irresistible smile, and those pick-up lines all to himself. I made the mistake of sleeping with him not once, but twice. I’m not stupid enough to give him round three, especially after he left me in the middle of the night so I could see myself out. I vow to return to Philadelphia and forget him.
It proves easier said than done.
When the doctor informs me I’m the winner of door prize number two, I put my life on hold and head back to Bell Buckle. Three months and if we can’t make this work, I’m gone.
The problem is—when the cards are stacked against us, and I can’t bring myself to leave him, I’ll finally know if he truly loves me or if all my fears were real . . .

Review ~ Hetch (Men of S.W.A.T. #1) by River Savage

Hetch (Men of S.W.A.T. #1)
ebook purchased by myself.

Release Date: May 11th 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Save
verb \ˈsāv\

1 a: Keep safe or rescue (someone or something) from harm or danger.

Synonyms: rescue, come to someone's rescue, save someone's life, set free, liberate, deliver, extricate.

Saving lives is the end goal.
It's a responsibility I live with every day, the reason I wear the badge.
Built on a brotherhood that runs deeper than blood, this way of life has become my very existence...

Until Liberty.

I thought I was saving her.

I never expected her to be the one saving me.

My Opinion

I've been dying to read this for months--ever since I saw the cover. Based on that alone I needed this book on my shelf and finally I've had time to get to it.

Hetch's story hooked me from page one and it never let up. It had the right amount of angst mixed with romance, and a hint of danger. While Hetch is the alpha and S.W.A.T team leader, he's not whole and this book is about him healing and getting put back together with the help of Liberty.

I liked how their romance started. It was comical. However, I did buy into the emotions that developed from it. There was definitely a spark and I loved that Liberty wasn't afraid to call him out on his crap.

As for the secondary characters, Savage has created an interesting bunch I want to know more about. All of the guys have an interesting story to tell, but most of all they're a tight-knit group who have each other's backs.

Overall, a great read. I knew I'd enjoy this one and I'd definitely recommend it. I hope there's more to come soon.

Publisher: Limitless Publishing LLC

Description:
Sloane Robertson has it all—an awesome job, a handsome boyfriend, and the perfect apartment…

Well, maybe everything isn’t perfect.

Her boss is acting strange, and constantly covering for him is taking its toll. Her handsome boyfriend also happens to be a cheating scumbag. At least she has a great apartment.

However, after witnessing her boss’s murder, Sloane is forced to take refuge with the best man in her cousin’s wedding. The sexy ex-cop currently works at a security firm, and since her boyfriend can’t be bothered to protect her, Maxwell Fear steps in.

Max has been on protection detail a time or two, so he knows he has what it takes to keep Sloane safe…

Max knows all too well what can happen to a witness of a violent crime. Protecting Sloane is just another job. That mind-numbing kiss at her front door after dinner at her cousin’s house was a fluke. He will keep it professional and do his job.

But what’s business without at least a little pleasure?

After watching Sloane suffer through her boyfriend’s constant indiscretions, Max is certain she deserves better. Can he manage to keep Sloane safe long enough to convince her to ditch her boyfriend and make her realize that he’s the…

…best man for the job?

My Opinion

This book started off strong, but for me it didn't continue with the same amount of strength the whole way through. I'm a big fan of romantic suspense--especially bodyguard type of romances. Unfortunately, this one fell a little short in that department.

I did like the characters in this book. The story had promise and potential, and I believed in the relationships. I thought the guys came across as a close knit group, and that there was a bond between them. There was also a spark between Max and Solane and I liked how they all stepped up.

For me, it was the suspense element that let this book down. I thought it was underplayed and then over too quickly when it was finally reintroduced. I also thought for a supposed Russian mob they gave up and sat back a lot. The Russian mafia are ruthless and well organised. This guy felt more like an armature hit man--if even that. He didn't have the sinister qualities or desire to kill to pull off ties to the mafia for me. I also dislike that we never found out what they were killing her boss for in the first place.

Overall it's an okay read. It's pretty laid back and an easy read. I wouldn't class it as a romantic suspense, but as a romance it's okay to pass the time.

Review ~ Lucky Penny by L.A. Cotton

Lucky Penny
ebook downloaded for free via Amazon.

Release Date: November 2015

Description:
I was his lucky Penny. He was my light in the dark, hope in despair. Our bond was one of survival, friendship... first love.

But then we were ripped apart and Blake Weston became the memory I turned to when everything else in my life fell apart.

Seven years later, a summer working at Camp Chance is supposed to be my fresh start. Beautiful scenery and the chance to better the lives of foster children - kids like me. But when my eyes land on him across the fire, time stands still and feelings come rushing back to the surface. I thought I'd moved on, tucked him away in my heart. One look into his soulful blue eyes and I know I'm wrong. Blake Weston can heal the broken parts of me. Restore my hope. Love me.

It's our second chance. A sign we are supposed to be together.

Isn't it?

I was twelve when I survived the accident that killed my parents. Fourteen when I survived the devil. And sixteen, when I survived a heartbreak of the worst kind.

But in my twenty-three years, Blake Weston might just be the first thing I won't survive.

My Opinion

This was a touching read. It's not the first book I've downloaded by this author, but it is the first I've read and wanted the most.

Lucky Penny was an emotional read. Dealing with some hard issues about abuse and the bad side of foster care, Blake and Penny pull each other through the situations they find themselves in. They have a tight bond that is evident through the writing and I wanted them to find their way back to each other.

For the most part this was a great read. It held my attention well and engaged with my emotions. I wasn't keen on the ending and thought it needed to be slowed down, but in general I enjoyed the book.

Overall a great first time read. If you're looking for an angsty story with a touching romance this may be for you.

Review ~ Flirting with Love (Lovelly, #2) by Clara Stone

Flirting with Love (Lovelly, #2)
ebook downloaded for free via Amazon.

Release Date: March 6th 2015

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Hudson and Blake Lovelly lead a charmed life—successful careers, loving family, beautiful home. Now, on the eve of their daughter’s birth, they’re counting their blessings. Life wasn’t always so generous . . .

Fifteen years ago, seventeen-year-old Blake Voss walked into Cranbrook Preparatory High to participate in the school year’s most-prestigious debate competition. She never expected to fall for the pretentious, golden-haired boy on the opposing debate team, and he never expected to be ensnared by the quick-witted prankster with a heart of gold.

Their mutual love for joking pretense soon leads them to pull their biggest prank yet--pretending to be in love. But when danger threatens, Hudson can’t conceal his growing affection. He’ll do anything to be with Blake, even if it means risking his heart to protect her.

They didn’t plan for their friendship to grow into a love story. But sometimes, all it takes is a little Hope.

This powerful companion to Forever Kinda Love tells the history of Hudson and Blake’s relationship. Laced with haunting emotion and beautiful sentiment, this is a tale about overcoming even the darkest moments, reminding us all to love more.

Give more.

Without regrets.

*This book is a standalone within a series

My Opinion

I'm really struggling over what to make of this book. On one hand it held my attention, and on the other I feel like something was missing. I can't make my mind up about whether it was an okay read or a good one.

Set in two time periods, Flirting With Love flips between the past and present. The present chapters follow Blake having a baby, while the past detail her and Hudson's relationship beginning.

To be completely honest, I'm not sure what the point of mixing the chapters up was. I think this is my biggest cause of indecision with this book. I kept waiting for something to happen in the present and it never really did. To me it seemed like all the present chapters could have been joined together into one epilogue.

As for the past, it was okay, but I felt like it needed more. The backstories weren't strong enough for my tastes. They needed a little more description to fully flesh them out. I don't know ... I liked the relationship, I just wanted a little more.

Overall, I have no idea what to make of this book. It's definitely not a bad read though so if the blurb interests you consider giving it a go.

Review ~ Unsuitable by Samantha Towle

Unsuitable
ebook purchased by myself.

Release Date: October 1st 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Daisy Smith has spent eighteen months of her life paying for a crime she didn’t commit. Now out of prison, she has only one focus—to get back custody of her younger brother, Jesse, who is deep in the foster care system. Desperate to rebuild her life and show the system that she is responsible enough to care for Jesse, she takes on the only job available to her—working as a maid at the Matis Estate.

On day one of her new job, Daisy meets Kastor Matis, the only son of the owners and her new boss. An enigmatic, handsome Greek god of a man, Kas is closed off, cold, and…well, kind of a bastard.

The more time Daisy spends around Kas, she starts to see there might be more to him than just his cold, bastard ways. He may actually have a heart beating in that frozen chest of his.

But Kas has secrets, too. Secrets that he’s determined to keep.

Secrets make Daisy curious.

And you know what curiosity can do…

My Opinion

This book is a little different from everything I've read by this author before. I've been a big fan of her work since I read Troubled a few years ago. However, I found Unsuitable to be slightly darker a
and grittier with the characters, and I thought the author pulled off the change in writing well.

Just like always, this Samantha Towle book had me hooked and I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know Kas' secret, and I wanted him to prove me wrong and turn out to be the guy Daisy deserved. While I tried to distance myself from him--because I knew he was hiding something dark--he managed to work his way past my defences with his sweet, almost vulnerable attitude towards Daisy. He came across like an ass in the beginning, yet he had these tender moments and he wasn't the typical man-whore a lot of books have nowadays. It was a refreshing change.

Similarly, in regards to Daisy, I sympathised with her for what she'd gone through. It was unfair and heartbreaking. However, I admired the way she didn't dwell on the events once she was out. She was solely focused on getting Jesse back and I believed in her emotions.

Overall, this was a book that kept me reading and I couldn't put down. It's a bit different from what I'm used to with this author, but she does the genre justice and created a great read.

Review ~ Scarred by You by Laura Carter

Scarred by You
eARC received from the author in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: October 24th 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Their past will become their future. Their scars will be reopened.

Clark Layton has the world at his feet. He is the CEO of one of the largest oil companies in the world and he has a fiancée most men would kill for. Then why, the night before his wedding, is he still thinking about everything he lost when he walked out on Dayna Cross?

Dayna didn’t intend to take the helm of Subsea Petroleum. But events beyond her control left her no choice. And she can handle it, mostly. She can juggle the long hours, the chauvinistic men, and a broken heart. What she can’t deal with is Clark Layton swanning back into her life and threatening to break down her walls.

They are rival CEOs and they are in a dogfight for a lucrative new pipeline. But as truths of their past begin to surface, business won’t be the biggest battle they enter into.

My Opinion

This is the first book I've read by Laura Carter. Having met her at a signing earlier this year she's been on my tbr pile for awhile so when I saw Scarred By You I was intrigued and had to read it. Considering it's a standalone it seemed like the perfect place to start.

This book offered something different. While it deals with CEOs, both Clark and Dayna are in the oil industry. I've not seen this before and I thought it gave the book a uniqueness and interesting angle. The plot surrounding the oil companies was interesting and kept me intrigued as it's corrupt and dirty.

As for the relationship, I did think there was chemistry. The characters are put through their paces in this book and I enjoyed watching their journey play out. I believed in Clark's emotions, but I was glad Dayna didn't let him walk all over her.

I did wish there was a slight nod to the other characters at the end just to wrap things up a little more. Dayna's revenge fizzled out a little and I didn't understand why. However that's only minor--literally wanted a sentence here or there.

Overall this was a book that was different to what I've read before. It was well written and I thought it a great introduction to this author.

Review ~ Prick Tease (Tangled Desires, #1) by Misti Murphy

Prick Tease (Tangled Desires, #1)
ebook downloaded for free via Amazon.

Release Date: October 21st 2015

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Claire Hadley shouldn’t even be on my radar.
There are a million damn reasons why I shouldn’t touch her.

Her brothers are my best friends. We grew up together, under the same roof.

I’m supposed to think of her like a little sister.

I won’t break my loyalty for a f*ck.

Razer Bennington forgot me when he joined the marines.
One kiss. Seven years. I can’t get the taste of him out of my mouth.

I’m meant to be the good girl. A virgin. A role model.

I’m supposed to live up to their expectations.

Screw that…

I’m going to get what I want.

I should be careful what I wish for.

***
Claire Hadley was about to check the perfect fiancé off her checklist.
Until she found him underneath a hooker.
Running home to her brother, she doesn’t expect to be rescued by Razer Bennington.
Seven years ago he left her behind.
But she hasn’t forgotten their last night together. Or the kiss they shared.
Tired of living up to the expectations of others, she throws caution to the wind.
This time she’ll get what she wants.
Even if getting what she wants could destroy him.

My Opinion

For a freebie this was okay. I thought it would be right up my street what with a former marine and brother's best friend as the main themes. I was excited to start it as soon as it appeared on my Kindle.

While this was an easy read, I did expect it to be hotter. Personally, I didn't think there was a spark between Razer and Claire. They were okay as a couple, but they lacked chemistry. Maybe I went in expecting too much, I don't know, but that's what let this book down for me. I also don't think the marine side of things wasn't used to its full potential. It was very much just mentioned and left at that.

Overall, it was an okay read to pass the time.

Review ~ Professed by Nicola Rendell

Professed
ebook downloaded for free via Amazon.

Release Date: August 1st 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
At a secret masked ball at Yale, Naomi Costa is literally swept off her stiletto-blistered feet by a man with a killer jawline, a perfect body, and an even-better kiss. They bust out of an emergency exit and have axis-shaking sex. He pours whiskey in her belly button and after they run out of condoms, they have to get creative. That kind of sex.

The next day, she learns that he is none other than Dr. Benjamin Beck, a brand new member of the Yale faculty and the hottest thing to happen to academia since… well, ever. She has to take his damned junior seminar to graduate, but it gets worse. He’s also her College Master: her boss, her advisor, her everything. And he’s just moved in, right downstairs.

They can’t stay away from each other. They're either fusion or fission or both. They’re making out in libraries, hiding notes between stones, and sneaking off to nautically themed AirBnbs. Hear that sound? It’s the academic code of ethics going up in flames.

If they're found out, he’ll lose his job and his reputation. She'll lose her scholarship and be forced to return to the life of lobster fishing that she thought she’d escaped.

And they will be found out, yes they will.

So what the hell are they going to do?

My Opinion

Professed isn't my usual read, but it was free and sounded hot from the teasers I'd seen on Facebook so I decided to give it a chance.

While there were parts that weren't for me, and I'm still not totally convinced by this trope, something about this book kept me reading. When Naomi and Ben were together there was definite chemistry and it was a hot read.

Overall, a good read. I'm not going to say too much as I don't read much of this trope, but I'm glad I took a chance on it.

Blog Tour Review ~ Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend (Confessions, #2) by Kay Marie

Confessions of an Undercover Girlfriend (Confessions, #2)
eARC received via the author in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: October 11th 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:

So, I'm no longer a virgin sex columnist—thank you, Ollie—but if I thought that was going to make my life easier, boy was I wrong! John is back in town determined to win my forgiveness. Blythe is more ready than ever to take me down. Bridget is totally onto the new twinkle in my eye. And, well, Ollie is just as distractingly delicious as usual.

So, naturally, I have a few more confessions to make.

Confession #1: I came up with what I thought would be the perfect plan to keep my relationship with Ollie a secret—pretend to get back together with John!

Confession #2: It backfired. A lot.

My Opinion

After enjoying Confessions of a Virgin Sex Columnist  I couldn't wait to start this book to see where the author took Ollie and Skylar's story.

Once again this was a sweet and easy read. The writing flows well and is just a pleasure to get lost in. There are some comical moments thrown in with a tiny amount of drama, which made for a light, fluffy book that just made me feel good. The craziness of it all put a smile on my face.

As for the characters, I thought they were continued well. I'm not sure I felt as much of a spark between Ollie and Skylar, but they were a cute couple and I wanted the best for them.

Overall, this was an enjoyable read. It was a laugh and one of those books that picked me up when I needed it. I'd definitely recommend.

Ten years later Beckett’s turned into a man with confidence and the self-esteem he needs to search for Harlow. The only problem is; she’s off grid.

After graduating high school, he finally grew. Even after ten years, Beckett never went a day without thinking of Harlow, every decision he ever made, was made with her in mind.

With the support of not only his boss, but friends the dig deeper to find her. The only problem is the unknown.

This story is about lost loves, best friends and second chances.

My Opinion

Never Forgotten Love was a cute second chance romance with a hint of suspense. It held my interest for the most part and I enjoyed it.

I liked Harlow and Beck's story. I liked how their roles reversed as they met when they were older and Beck became the protector. Although I did have to suspend reality for a few things, the majority of the book was well crafted.

After all, what woman, especially a world-renowned romance writer, doesn't believe in happily ever after? Something in Alexandria's eyes tortures him. My Opinion

I haven't read anything by this author before, but I was drawn to Insta-Hate by the cover--so pretty--and then I saw it was free and had to have it.

This was a quick, easy read. It didn't delve too deep into things and sometimes events were too easily resolved, but it was interesting and kept me hooked.

Review ~ Harley & Rose by Carmen Jenner

Harley & Rose
eARC received via a our company in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: October 18th 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
Ever since she was a little girl, thirty-year-old Rose dreamed of the day Harley would carry her across the threshold on their honeymoon. So what if this isn’t her actual wedding day, and that she’s only here because Harley was left at the altar just a few hours earlier?

Trading San Francisco for paradise and swapping her bridesmaid’s bouquet for a Blue Hawaii, Rose hopes she can finally escape the friend zone.

Once upon a time they had been more than friends, but life got in the way. She’s spent every day since wishing Harley would get a clue.

She’s always been his best friend.

He’s always been hers.

She’s in love with him.

He’s … not in love with her.

He’s … marrying someone else.

He’s … hiding something.

He’s … well—it’s complicated.

My Opinion

I don't like this author right now. Like seriously ... she broke me with Toward The Sound of Chaos earlier this year, but that was nothing compared to Harley & Rose. Worst of all, I wasn't even expecting it for this book. So yeah ... she's my not my favourite person in the world right now.

Like I said, this book broke me. I won't go into a details so as not to spoil this read for you, but it took me on a journey filled with plenty of emotions. It had its ups and downs, and it broke my heart. I didn't expect the story to follow the path it did and that made it all the worse because I couldn't prepare and I couldn't protect myself.

Honestly, right now this book hit a little too close to home. It moved me to tears, which is an achievement of its own since only 4 books have done that in the past. I couldn't stop reading and it was a beautifully written story.

This is only the second book I've read by this author, but it won't be the last--even if she writes soul destroying stories that leave me in pieces.

If you haven't read anything by this author you need to check this book out. If you have heard of her, you'll definitely want to read this. Toward The Sound of Chaos is still my favourite, but this is a great read.

Review ~ The Two-Night One-Night Stand by Ryan Ringbloom

The Two-Night One-Night Stand
eARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Release Date: September 29th 2016

Publisher: Self-published

Description:
A girl. A guy. And a talking peen.

Holly Martin isn't the type to have a one-night stand. But a crushing break up, a sexy blind date, and a few shots of Fireball is about to change all that.

Matthew Daniels is an introverted PA who claims he’s too busy to date. But that doesn’t stop his older brothers from encouraging him to let loose and get out there, because as they put it - the right girl won’t just walk up to you.

But what if she does?

Is it possible for a one-night stand that happens twice, to actually become more? Could two nights of reckless debauchery actually lead to true love? Or is this just another case of a whisky induced disaster?

This Romantic Comedy is sure to have you laughing, cringing, rolling your eyes, shouting at the pages and looking for a shot glass of your own.

My Opinion

This book did exactly what it stated. It was a cute, easy read that kept me entertained for a couple of hours.

The Two-Night One-Night Stand did make me smile. While I didn't think it was laugh out loud funny, it was a happy read and exactly what I needed after the last book I read. Holly and Matthew did have chemistry, but it was the easiness of this book I liked most. It flowed well, was well written, and just an uplifting story.

The Two-Night One-Night Stand is just one of those books that makes you feel happy. It was sweet, had some comedic moments, and was a little over the top--in a good way.

Overall I really enjoyed this book and hope to read the next when it's released.

As the trial for Salazar and his men approaches, Aria is the target of revenge when her foes join forces.

Can Kulani save the woman he loves and give her a Hawaiian happily-ever-after?
Or will their future come to a bloody end at the hands of their enemies…

My Opinion

Eh. This was okay, but not as good as the first. I was disappointed that it followed two entirely new characters. I wanted James' story and to stay in Alaska.

While the story was okay, I do think the suspense element has been underdeveloped in both books so far. Things come to a conclusion too easily and quickly, so for me it's just not satisfying. I also got bored of these characters. They didn't have anything original about them so felt very 2D and uninspiring.

Overall, I have book 3 since I got them all free, but I'm not sure I'll continue them. There just feels like there's something missing.
